In a bold move, Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese has taken a stand against what she describes as a “disrespectful” proposal from the WNBA in the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations. Reese, known for her competitive spirit and rivalry with Caitlin Clark, isn’t holding back her criticism of the league’s handling of the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Reese’s outspoken nature is resonating with fans, as she insists on being vocal about the issues at hand. “It’s important to be able to be vocal. If I sit back, it looks like I don’t care,” she declared during the WNBA All-Star weekend. Her comments come amid a backdrop of record-breaking viewership, largely driven by her and Clark’s performances, highlighting the growing popularity of women’s basketball.

The players and league officials recently met, but no agreement was reached. Reese isn’t alone in her dissatisfaction. New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu and Phoenix Mercury’s Satou Sabally have also expressed their discontent, labeling the league’s offer as inadequate.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert remains optimistic, describing the dialogue as “constructive.” However, Reese’s frustration is palpable, especially after she hinted at players potentially sitting out games to demand better pay during her podcast in March.

Reese has been vocal about her financial struggles, revealing that her WNBA salary doesn’t cover her living expenses. Despite signing a four-year, $324,383 rookie contract, she made under $75,000 in her first year and will earn less in 2025. “The WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese lamented, pointing out the disparity between her earnings and her $8,000 monthly rent.

The players’ union opted out of the current CBA last October, two years before its expiration, leaving both sides with a year to negotiate a new agreement. As the WNBA continues to grow in popularity, the players are making it clear they won’t settle for less than they deserve.
