Yankees Star Achieves What No Pitcher Has Done In Over A Century

Liberty Check

  • Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler reaches historic pitching milestone not seen since 1913
  • Outstanding dominance: 59 strikeouts, just 9 walks, 1.35 ERA through nine starts
  • Performance matches legendary Walter Johnson’s century-old achievement

New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler is making baseball history in the 2026 season, accomplishing what hasn’t been seen on a major league mound in more than a century.

In his latest outing against the Milwaukee Brewers, Schlittler allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings while striking out six batters. Though the Yankees ultimately fell 4-3 in extra innings, the 26-year-old right-hander cemented his place in the record books.

Schlittler has now reached at least 50 strikeouts with fewer than 10 walks issued, no more than one home run allowed, and an ERA below 1.50 through his first nine starts of the season. He’s the first pitcher to hit those combined benchmarks since the legendary Walter Johnson accomplished the feat in 1913, according to Opta Stats.

His current numbers are staggering: 59 strikeouts, just nine walks, one home run surrendered, and a microscopic 1.35 ERA.

“He’s a stud,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s just a great competitor, and obviously a great pitcher. He settled in and obviously pitched awesome.”

Schlittler’s toughness was on full display when he stayed in the game after taking a 108.5 mph liner off his body in the first inning. The Yankees held a 2-0 lead when he exited, but the bullpen couldn’t preserve the advantage.

Milwaukee’s Jake Bauers cut the deficit with a home run off Brent Headrick. Camilo Doval surrendered the tying run, and Fernando Cruz allowed the final two runs that sealed the Brewers’ comeback victory.

Brewers catcher William Contreras went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win. His sacrifice fly in the 10th inning scored Luis Rengifo with what proved to be the decisive run.

Milwaukee improved to 21-16 with the victory, while New York fell to 26-14 despite another dominant performance from their breakout ace.

Americans deserve better.
