North Carolina Judge Weighs Trial Fitness in Refugee Killing Case
Liberty Check
- A North Carolina judge must decide whether DeCarlos Brown is fit to stand trial in the Charlotte train killing case.
- Brown, who reportedly has 14 prior arrests, is accused of murdering Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.
- Prosecutors may seek the death penalty if he is found competent to face the charges.
A North Carolina judge must determine if a repeat offender remains fit to stand trial for the brutal slaying of a young refugee. DeCarlos Brown, a man with fourteen previous arrests, allegedly murdered a Ukrainian woman on a Charlotte train.
The suspect was reportedly captured on video stabbing the victim while shouting racially charged remarks. Despite a history involving armed robbery and five years in prison, this individual was free to terrorize the community.
“He had been arrested 14 times… and should have been in jail when he murdered that beautiful, innocent young woman,” former Attorney General Pam Bondi stated.
Federal prosecutors may seek the death penalty if the defendant is deemed competent to face the charges. Restoring the rule of law is the only way to ensure the Constitution protects the innocent from predictable violence.
The Constitution must be defended.
