Poland Responds as Russian Drones Breach Airspace

Poland has put its air defense forces on heightened alert after Russian drones crossed into its airspace during strikes on Ukraine. This latest incursion prompted immediate action from Polish and allied aircraft tasked with protecting national borders.
The Polish armed forces announced on X, “All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace have been activated, and the Operational Command of the Armed Forces is continuously monitoring the situation.”
Ukraine’s military reported that multiple Russian drones violated Polish airspace, heading to targets in western Ukraine. Poland’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the breach and deployed aircraft, radar, and ground-based defenses in response.
No damages or injuries have resulted, but the intrusion follows recent incidents, including a drone crash near the Ukrainian border last month. Airspace over Warsaw was temporarily closed, and several regional airports suspended operations during the latest alert.
Authorities are intensifying border controls, and the government announced the imminent closure of the border with Belarus due to joint Russian-Belarusian exercises, which Poland regards as a security risk.
“We are treating these violations with the utmost seriousness,” said a defense ministry spokesperson. “Our armed forces are fully prepared to take necessary action.”
NATO has not formally responded, but Poland continues to update alliance members and coordinate defensive measures with neighboring countries.
