Should Senator Cory Booker Be Criticized for His Change in Filibuster Stance?

Here’s The Scoop

In a stunning display of political gymnastics, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., has flipped his stance on the Senate filibuster, a tool he once denounced as an “abuse of power.” Fast forward to today, and Booker is being celebrated by his party for delivering the “longest filibuster in U.S. Senate history,” clocking in at an impressive 25 hours and 5 minutes.

This shift is a glaring example of the left’s selective outrage. Just a few years ago, Democrats were up in arms, condemning the filibuster as a relic of obstructionism when Republicans used it to challenge President Joe Biden’s agenda. Booker himself took to social media in January 2022, decrying the filibuster’s use to block reforms like background checks and voting rights, calling for an end to what he saw as an abuse of power.

Yet, when the tables turned, and it suited their agenda, the Democrats were more than willing to embrace the very tactic they once vilified. Booker’s office, unsurprisingly, has remained silent on requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a rare voice of consistency in the Democratic Party, couldn’t resist pointing out the hypocrisy. She humorously referenced Booker’s marathon speech, suggesting that perhaps the filibuster isn’t the “Jim Crow relic” it was made out to be by the likes of President Barack Obama and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.

Jayapal, who previously slammed the filibuster as a tool of racial oppression, conveniently changed her tune when Republicans sought to pass a continuing resolution. She urged her colleagues to block the bill, showing that when political expediency calls, principles can be flexible.

Sinema, who stood firm against abolishing the filibuster during Biden’s administration, highlighted this inconsistency with a pointed remark about the sudden support for the “Jim Crow filibuster.”

Booker’s flip-flopping is not new. Back in 2019, he was a staunch defender of the filibuster, warning against any attempts to weaken it. Now, his actions speak louder than words, revealing a willingness to shift positions as political winds change.

This episode is a stark reminder of the left’s double standards and the importance of holding politicians accountable, regardless of their party affiliation.

Booker, another Democratic relic with no political relevance pontificating about nothing. Another Obama whom gets off on dividing the country instead finding real solutions to help all Americans instead of just a few followers.

The Dems always whine & cry about the filibuster when they’re in the majority but use the Hell out of it when they’re in the minority. Typical political hypocrisy…
