Study Links Plastic Chemicals to Millions of Infant Deaths Worldwide

  • The study estimates over 70,000 infant deaths are attributable to specific plastic-related chemical exposures.
  • Recent data shows half of U.S. states received failing or near-failing grades regarding preterm birth rates.
  • The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences classifies phthalates as an endocrine-disrupting “everywhere chemical.”

A recent study published in the Lancet journal identifies a significant correlation between widespread plastic chemicals and millions of preterm births worldwide.

Researchers discovered that exposure to phthalates like DEHP and DINP contributes to hundreds of thousands of infant deaths annually.

These toxic additives are prevalent in everyday household items, yet their impact on human development suggests a failure to protect the most vulnerable citizens.

The findings indicate that nearly 2 million preterm births in a single year were linked to these pervasive substances.

Dr. Leonardo Trasande, a senior author of the study, described phthalates as a “dangerous class of chemicals.”

The protection of life begins with ensuring the safety of our environments from pervasive, unregulated hazards that compromise our future generations.

We must demand transparency and accountability regarding materials that have demonstrated such devastating consequences for families.

The Constitution must be defended.
