Texas Pushes Back on California’s Car Mandate

Liberty Check

Texas is stepping up to challenge California’s attempt to override federal vehicle emissions standards with even stricter rules. State leaders argue that California’s plan not only threatens Texan sovereignty, but risks forcing its regulatory mandates on Americans nationwide.

After the Biden administration reinstated waivers for California to impose higher emissions requirements, Governor Newsom responded swiftly, but Texas isn’t sitting back. With the support of America First Legal, Texas filed a court motion to fight for consumer choice and uphold federal law.

  • Texas, with America First Legal, seeks to block California’s stricter vehicle emissions rules in federal court.
  • The Clean Air Act allows other states to follow California’s standards, impacting up to 40% of the car market nationwide.
  • Texas officials call the move an attack on energy independence and state sovereignty, warning of reduced vehicle choices and higher costs for families.

“California’s crusade is not about innovation—it is about abusing the legal system to flout federal law and impose its radical agenda on all Americans,” said Daniel Epstein of America First Legal.

Attorney General Ken Paxton stated, “I am standing with President Trump in his effort to stop Gavin Newsom and California from shoving its insane so-called ‘green energy’ vehicle standards down the nation’s throat. Texas will not look the other way while the failed state of California undermines our sovereignty, attacks America’s energy independence, and intentionally adopts destructive policies that would harm the other States.”

Pro-business groups and several agricultural organizations are joining Texas, emphasizing that Congress—not individual states—should hold the reins on national policy.

It’s a clear effort to defend constitutional limits on state power and protect consumer freedom everywhere. Stand with Texas as they push to preserve liberty and energy independence.

The Constitution must be defended.
