In a bold move to protect American sovereignty and uphold the integrity of our immigration system, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has launched a large-scale operation in Minneapolis, targeting rampant marriage and asylum fraud. This unprecedented initiative, dubbed Operation Twin Shield, is a testament to the Trump administration’s commitment to cracking down on immigration fraud and safeguarding national security.
USCIS, in collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI, meticulously reviewed 1,000 cases, uncovering fraud and security concerns in a staggering 275 instances. This operation marks the first of its kind following a new rule that empowers USCIS to expand its law enforcement capabilities, ensuring that those who exploit our immigration system are brought to justice.
Among the egregious cases uncovered was an immigrant who orchestrated a sham marriage with an elderly U.S. citizen, subjecting them to elder abuse and exploitation. In another shocking instance, an individual fabricated a death certificate to falsely claim the end of a marriage, while the supposed deceased was alive and residing in Minneapolis with their five children. These cases highlight the lengths to which some will go to undermine our laws and exploit our system.
USCIS Director Joseph Edlow emphasized the operation’s success, stating, “USCIS is declaring an all-out war on immigration fraud. We will relentlessly pursue everyone involved in undermining the integrity of our immigration system and laws.” This operation is not just a one-off; it signals a broader shift towards rigorous enforcement under the Trump administration, with more such crackdowns likely to follow.
The operation, conducted from September 19 to 28, is a clear message that America will not tolerate those who flout its laws. With Executive Order 14161 as its guiding framework, USCIS is now empowered to thoroughly vet applicants and aggressively pursue fraud, a stark contrast to the lax policies of the previous administration.
As investigations continue, the number of notices to appear in court and referrals to ICE is expected to rise, reinforcing the message that the United States will protect its borders and its citizens.
