Armed Suspect Apprehended at Capitol’s Doorstep

Capitol Police arrested an 18-year-old man accused of carrying a loaded shotgun and approaching the Capitol’s west front at midday. The event happened while Congress was out of session, keeping most lawmakers out of harm’s way.
Police Chief Michael Sullivan said the individual is not from the D.C. area and ran from a white Mercedes SUV toward the Capitol.
- The man complied with officers’ orders to drop his weapon and surrender.
- He was outfitted with a tactical vest and gloves, and his shotgun was loaded.
- Authorities are still investigating and have not disclosed any motive.
