The Constitution’s principles enabled the abolition movement, the Civil War that ended slavery, and the civil rights movement that secured equal protection under law. These achievements stemmed directly from America’s founding documents, not in spite of them.

Reid’s comments also erase the experiences of millions of Black Americans who proudly celebrate Independence Day as a testament to freedom and opportunity. Her sweeping generalizations dismiss patriotic Americans of all backgrounds who honor the sacrifices made to secure liberty.

The progressive media’s ongoing campaign against American history serves a clear purpose: undermining national unity and constitutional values. By attacking Independence Day, leftist commentators seek to delegitimize America’s founding and the timeless principles it represents.

Traditional holidays celebrate the ideals that made America exceptional — limited government, individual rights, and rule of law. These principles benefit all Americans regardless of background, which is precisely why they face constant assault from the left.
