Should the Government Ban “Squatter’s Rights”?
Should the Government Ban “Squatter’s Rights”?
Here’s The Scoop
In a shocking display of injustice, a New York City property owner, Adele Andaloro, ended up in handcuffs after trying to reclaim her $1 million home from alleged squatters. Andaloro inherited the home from her parents and discovered squatters had moved in when she attempted to sell the property. Despite her rightful ownership, Andaloro was charged with unlawful eviction for changing the locks on her own home.
New York City’s absurd “squatter’s rights” laws allow a person to claim rights to a property after just 30 days of living there. These laws not only protect squatters but make it nearly impossible for rightful property owners to reclaim their homes without a lengthy and costly legal battle.
This outrageous situation highlights the urgent need for the government to ban “squatter’s rights” and protect the rights of property owners. The current laws enable criminals to steal homes from hardworking, law-abiding citizens, and the system is only getting worse. New York-based attorney Alan J. Goldberg says the city has seen a 40 to 50% increase in similar cases since the COVID pandemic began.
It’s time for the government to take action and put an end to this disgraceful practice. Property owners should not have to live in fear of losing their homes to squatters. The current laws are a slap in the face to every hardworking American who has invested in property and deserves to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The government must ban “squatter’s rights” and restore justice to property owners like Adele Andaloro.

Unbelievable that squatters can take over your home even though you have paid for it, paid the taxes for years, and they can lay claim to ii? Unbelievable. Who wrote these laws? This is news to me, and it should be fought against in every state. Write your congressman to find a way to rule on this.

I have a friend that is windowed and this happened to her when she moved to Florida and rented her home out. He stopped paying shortly after moving in and she was not allowed to turn off the utilities. He destroyed the place and it took almost a year to kick him out! It almost bankrupted her. These laws protect criminals not law abiding people.

I agree with Jan V. This law only benefits the perpetrator of the home and anyone who disagrees ought to have their car keys taken from them!!! In this country up is down and down is up since Biden took over the oval office. In my opinion, honest, hard-working American citizens are being discriminated against in order for the Left to take over this country. It is very SAD!!!!

They can’t get away with it in Wayne County, Michigan: Here they don’t even give you the 7 days to get out that they’re supposed to. Judge says “Eviction” (and they ALWAYS do) and they slap that notice on your front door telling you to be out before 5PM the NEXT DAY.

I don’t understand how this is even a thing. You leave on vacation and come back to YOUR HOME with someone else staying there and get arrested for throwing them out? This is just too stupid.

New York city is only 30 days. That is ridiculous. Most states require years to do this. But of course, New York City has to make it easier. To hell with the property owner. It’s your liberal politicians to have allowed this stuff to take place.
