Crenshaw Faces Criticism for Shifting Stance in DC
Clear Facts:
- Toth claims Crenshaw has failed to provide the leadership he promised as a candidate.
- Crenshaw’s voting record, especially on issues like red-flag gun laws and Ukraine spending, has drawn sharp criticism from constitutional conservatives.
- Despite endorsement from the NRA, Crenshaw is facing accusations of abandoning his original principles and siding with establishment interests.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw entered Congress on a wave of outsider enthusiasm, pledging disruption and accountability in Washington. Now, Texas state Rep. Steve Toth accuses Crenshaw of going along with the political establishment he once vowed to challenge.
On “Just the News, No Noise,” Toth reflected,
“I got behind Dan in 2018 when he decided to run.”
“I mean, it was a man-crush.”
“I mean, here we have a Navy SEAL war hero that was running.”
“He said he was going to upset the apple cart.”
“He said he was going to be a disruptive influence.”
“He said he was going to fight the Democrats.”
Instead, Toth argues Crenshaw assimilated quickly, saying,
“Instead, as soon as he got there, he cozied up to them [the Democrats] and decided it was good to be here.”
“It was good to be part of the swamp.”
Crenshaw has been labeled a “Republican in Name Only” by some in the MAGA branch of the GOP. He has faced backlash for supporting controversial legislation and for his stance on House Republican disputes, especially his criticism of members not supporting former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. In January, House GOP members declined to appoint Crenshaw to a key committee chair, following his sharp remarks about colleagues.
Debate continues over Crenshaw’s positions, with Toth spotlighting his vote to send aid to Ukraine, arguing border security at home should take priority. Toth stated,
“When we should have been working on closing the border, Dan Crenshaw was sending billions of dollars in defense of Ukraine’s border, but not our own border.”
The Constitution demands vigilance and unwavering defense of citizens’ rights, not accommodation to entrenched powers. Patriots must hold their representatives accountable to their promises and to the principles of limited government.
Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
