  • Democrat Karen Bass attacks Republican challenger Spencer Pratt by comparing him to President Trump — a move that could backfire with voters tired of political elites
  • Bass faces intense scrutiny over her failed response to devastating January wildfires and broken promises on homelessness, crime, and drug addiction plaguing Los Angeles
  • A Republican challenger is gaining serious momentum in deep-blue LA, signaling voters are fed up with decades of Democrat mismanagement

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass spent the final weekend before Election Day scrambling to salvage her crumbling campaign as a surprisingly competitive mayoral race heads toward a likely runoff.

Bass, who is desperately seeking a second term, faces a serious challenge from former reality star Spencer Pratt and city council member Nithya Raman in Tuesday’s primary election. Recent polling shows no candidate is expected to receive more than 50% of the vote, forcing the top two finishers into a November runoff.

On Saturday, Bass — backed by failed Democrat heavyweights including former Vice President Kamala Harris and California Gov. Gavin Newsom — made a stop at Yosemite Recreation Center in Eagle Rock. She was spotted serving tacos while wearing an apron reading “Common Sense and Carne Asada” in what appeared to be a desperate attempt at retail politics.

But it was Bass’s Instagram livestream that revealed the true panic setting in at her campaign headquarters. During a conversation with two actresses, Bass took a direct shot at Pratt in language that will sound all too familiar to conservatives.

“You have a failed reality TV star who wants to be famous,” she said, before appearing to reference President Donald Trump.

“We know what it means if you put somebody who is a reality TV star in a seat of power.”

The comparison to President Trump — a tactic Democrats have wielded against Republicans for years — signals Bass is in serious trouble. When establishment politicians start comparing their opponents to Trump, it’s usually because they’ve run out of substantive arguments.

Pratt, best known for his role on “The Hills,” has gained significant traction by relentlessly criticizing Bass over her catastrophic response to the January 2025 wildfires that destroyed thousands of structures, including his Pacific Palisades home. He has also hammered the Democrat mayor over her broken promises on homelessness, rampant drug addiction, and skyrocketing crime rates that have turned Los Angeles into a cautionary tale of failed progressive governance.

The registered Republican has gained serious momentum in recent weeks, securing endorsements from fellow reality television personalities, actors, musicians, and media figures. His grassroots campaign has exploded on social media as frustrated Angelenos search for an alternative to decades of Democrat failures.

Meanwhile, Raman spent Saturday attempting to rally her own supporters, pointing to recent polling numbers.

“After millions of dollars of spending against us, we are still here and we are still competitive,” she said in a video posted to Instagram.

Pratt used the weekend to criticize Raman’s campaign advertisements on X, keeping pressure on both of his Democrat opponents.

Bass still holds structural advantages in a city where Democratic candidates have historically dominated local elections. But her decision to invoke Trump — rather than defend her own disastrous record — suggests the incumbent mayor knows she’s fighting for her political life.

The primary election takes place Tuesday, with the top two vote-getters advancing to November’s runoff.

Americans deserve better.
