Liberty Check: South Carolina pastor and wife face grave foster care abuse charges
A South Carolina pastor and his wife face serious charges after a minor reported years of horrific sexual and physical abuse within their foster home. Rodney Gibson and Kawiana Young were arrested following allegations that the abuse began when the victim was only 15 years old.
Authorities state that Young held a foster license while hiding Gibson’s presence in the home from state agencies. This represents a catastrophic failure of oversight by the state services meant to protect the vulnerable.
Liberty Check
- State agencies failed to identify an unauthorized adult living in a licensed foster home.
- An emergency custody hearing still ended with a child returned to the allegedly abusive environment.
- The suspects were released on bond shortly after their arrests for violent felony charges.
The victim alleges that Gibson engaged in repeated sexual assaults while Young perpetrated physical abuse against children in their care. The South Carolina Department of Social Services admitted Young never disclosed her marriage or Gibson’s residency.
The agency said Young never reported that she was married and said she was not in a relationship.
Law enforcement officials are currently seeking additional victims who may have suffered under the couple’s supervision. Protecting the innocent from state-sanctioned negligence must be a priority for every citizen.
