NFL Player Jailed for Bond Violation
Clear Facts:
- Jimmie Ward was arrested for violating his $30,000 bond after testing positive for alcohol.
- He faces a third-degree felony related to a June assault charge; his attorney says the bond violation was a misunderstanding.
- No new allegations have been reported and the no-contact order remains in place during the investigation.
Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward finds himself behind bars again after violating his $30,000 bond conditions. The 34-year-old NFL player was arrested Thursday and booked into Montgomery County Jail for testing positive for alcohol.
Ward faces a third-degree felony charge for assault on a family member by impeding breathing or circulation from his June arrest. His attorney Steve Jackson explained the violation was due to a misunderstanding about bond conditions.
“It’s a condition of bond, and there are certain conditions like you can’t drink. Jimmie believed it was for not getting intoxicated, like he could have a drink. There was no contact with the complainant. The court has a zero tolerance policy for drinking while on bond, unbeknownst to him.”
Jackson clarified no new allegations were made against Ward and the no contact order remains intact.
The attorney previously stated he believes Ward will be
“vindicated”
as they investigate the allegations.
Ward spent nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before joining Houston on a two-year, $13 million deal in 2023. He signed a one-year extension worth $10.5 million last season and has appeared in 20 games for the Texans with three interceptions and 98 tackles.
Professional athletes increasingly face scrutiny in our justice system, where bond conditions can create complex legal traps. This case highlights how unclear terms can lead to unintended violations even when no new criminal activity occurs.
The Constitution must be defended.
