NYC Mayoral Candidate Dodges Accountability After Shooting

Liberty Check

  • Zohran Mamdani avoided taking responsibility for his previous calls to defund the police after a deadly Manhattan shooting.
  • He has softened his anti-police rhetoric and emphasized public safety while offering little regret for earlier statements.
  • Major national Democrats have not publicly endorsed him, signaling limited support as he pushes for stricter gun laws.

New York City’s Democratic mayoral nominee, Zohran Mamdani, evaded taking responsibility for his previous stance to defund the police following a mass shooting in Manhattan that left four people dead, including a NYPD officer.

Returning from his wedding in Uganda, Mamdani faced intense scrutiny at a press conference regarding his 2020 advocacy to defund law enforcement and his renewed push to disband the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group.

“My statements in 2020 were ones made amidst a frustration that many New Yorkers held at the murder of George Floyd,” Mamdani told reporters, sidestepping direct accountability for his earlier rhetoric.

Mamdani continues to shift his narrative, but New Yorkers must demand genuine leadership that respects law enforcement and protects their rights.

It’s time to push back.
