D.C. Cuts Deal—Homeland Security in Limbo
Liberty Check
- Senate Democrats and the White House agreed to keep most government agencies funded, narrowly avoiding a widespread shutdown.
- Homeland Security funding has been separated and given only a short-term extension, setting up another round of negotiations in two weeks.
- The five other appropriations bills will fund nearly all government operations through September, while Homeland Security awaits a temporary measure and immigration enforcement remains a heated issue.
President Trump urged Congress to fully fund the government and expand the Coast Guard, calling for bipartisan action to safeguard border security.
“I am working hard with Congress to ensure that we are able to fully fund the Government, without delay,”
the president said.
Senate Democrats continue to block full funding for Homeland Security unless immigration reforms are included, putting Americans’ safety and constitutional rights in the balance yet again.
The House must still pass the deal, but they aren’t due back until Monday, increasing the risk of a weekend shutdown—however brief.
Your vigilance is needed. Hold your representatives accountable for prioritizing national security and constitutional governance over political gamesmanship.
It’s time to push back.
