Franklin Graham issued a formal defense of President Donald Trump after critics characterized an AI-generated image as a self-depiction of Jesus Christ.
The evangelist clarified that the President viewed the artwork as a portrayal of a doctor providing aid rather than a religious figure.
“I do not believe President Trump would knowingly depict himself as Jesus Christ — that would certainly be inappropriate,” Graham wrote.
The evangelist also noted that other images showing Jesus guiding the President reflect a desire for spiritual direction that leaders require.
He said the media often spins those images into controversies that do not exist.
“I think this is a lot to do about nothing,” Graham said regarding the imagery.
While some commentators branded the imagery as blasphemous, Graham highlighted Trump’s record of protecting religious freedom for Americans.
He expressed hope for a future meeting between the President and the Pope to discuss those shared values of liberty.
The Constitution protects the right to express faith without the interference of a hostile media class.
Our leaders should be encouraged to seek guidance rather than being attacked for symbolic gestures.
Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
