Do You Agree with Michigan Guaranteeing Abortion Rights?
Do You Agree with Michigan’s Decision to Guarantee Abortion Rights Amid Rising Procedure Numbers?
Here’s The Scoop
In a concerning development for those who value the sanctity of life, Michigan has seen a dramatic surge in abortions following the state’s decision to enshrine abortion rights into its constitution. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reports that in 2023, the state witnessed approximately 31,241 abortions, marking an increase of over 1,000 from the previous year. This is the highest number Michigan has experienced in over three decades.
This alarming rise comes in the wake of a 2022 constitutional amendment that guarantees a “fundamental right” to abortion access. This amendment was passed shortly after the Supreme Court’s historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which had long protected abortion at the federal level. The amendment passed by more than a 10-point margin, allowing abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy and even beyond in cases deemed necessary for the physical or mental health of the mother.
Data from MDHHS reveals that women under 20 accounted for over 8% of these procedures, while those aged 20-24 made up about 26%. The implications of such statistics are profound, raising questions about the societal and cultural factors influencing young women in the state.
Particularly troubling is the report of at least two abortions performed after the 24-week mark in 2023, with one occurring after the 28th week. This raises ethical concerns about late-term abortions, a topic that remains deeply divisive across the nation.
Moreover, the state reported 16 cases of complications resulting from abortions in 2023, a stark increase compared to the total of 15 complications reported over the previous three years combined. The complication rate jumped significantly from 1.7 per 10,000 abortions to 5.1 per 10,000 in 2023, underscoring the potential risks associated with increased abortion access.
As abortion continues to be a contentious issue across the United States, Michigan’s situation highlights the ongoing debate. While many states are grappling with similar legislative challenges, it’s crucial to consider the broader implications of such measures on society and the moral fabric of our nation.

Ohio did the same thing the year before. Sadly, these same POS’s that want abortion on demand of the most innocent of humans, are the same POS’s that want to stop the death penalty on the most guilty of acts against other humans.

I signed the petition to get the amendment on the ballot and I voted “Yes” to get it added to the State Constitution. I don’t care, at all, about the number of women who have availed themselves of this Right as it’s none of my freakin’ business. It’s none of yours, either!
