Maryland Bill Targets ICE Agents’ Police Careers

Liberty Check

  • The proposed legislation prevents Trump-era ICE officers from working as Maryland police.
  • Delegate Boafo claims it’s necessary because ICE agents are “not trained” and “not qualified.”
  • Critics argue the bill is politically motivated and ignores standard police hiring practices.

A Maryland Democrat has advanced a bill called the “ICE Breaker Act of 2026.”

It aims to bar ICE agents hired under the Trump presidency from serving in state or local law enforcement.

The bill, introduced by State Delegate Adrian Boafo, singles out agents hired after January 20, 2025, excluding those who joined before that date.

Betsy Smith of the National Police Association called the proposal.

“Simply ridiculous.”

She noted that law enforcement jobs already require extensive vetting.

“It sounds as though this politician wants people to believe that an ICE agent can just come into their town and tomorrow be a patrol officer in their town… it’s simply ridiculous.”

Smith said.

Meanwhile, Delegate Matt Morgan condemned the bill as “an unserious, frankly stupid bill for the purpose of political pandering.”

Marylanders deserve law enforcement dedicated to protecting their communities, not subjected to political agendas. Stand up for fair hiring, limited government, and the rule of law.

Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
