Radical Michigan Dem Declares War on CNN After Hostile Interviews

Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed launched a vulgar attack on CNN over what he claims are uncomfortable appearances on the network. This is the same far-left candidate backed by Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — two of the most radical voices in American politics.

“I go on CNN every once in a while and I get a non-consensual colonoscopy,” El-Sayed said at a rally in Grand Rapids on Sunday, drawing laughs from the progressive crowd. His crude joke reveals the frustration of a radical candidate who can’t handle basic scrutiny from even a left-leaning network.

“And then, all they ask me about is another country, and they’re like, ‘All he’s ever talking about is another country.’ No! I just want everybody to understand that there’s an opportunity cost to the money being sent over there, and that is what we could have over here,” he continued.

But El-Sayed’s complaints ring hollow when you examine what actually happened during his CNN appearances. The truth is far more troubling than his victimhood narrative suggests.

Earlier that same day, El-Sayed appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union,” where anchor Jake Tapper pressed him on previously-leaked audio. In that recording, El-Sayed admitted he didn’t want to comment on the killing of Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in February because he feared offending his constituents.

“Why were you worried about people who supported the ayatollah?” Tapper asked.

El-Sayed largely sidestepped the question, refusing to explain why he would pander to supporters of a brutal Islamic theocracy. Instead, he tried to pivot to discussing three U.S. servicemembers who were killed by Iranian strikes in Jordan.

“Look, let’s have a conversation based in Michigan. I’m running for Senate in Michigan. And I think here in Michigan, all of us are probably sad about the fact that we went to a war that we never should have fought. I’d rather our money be spent here,” El-Sayed told Tapper.

“I was specifically asking you about comments you didn’t want to make because you didn’t want to offend people in Dearborn, which is in Michigan,” Tapper replied before moving on to another topic.

This wasn’t El-Sayed’s first meltdown on CNN. Earlier this month, he clashed with CNN anchor Kasie Hunt about his deleted social media posts expressing support for defunding the police. Rather than own his radical past positions, he accused the network of seeking “clickbait” instead of focusing on what voters care about.

The pattern is clear: El-Sayed wants a free pass to avoid accountability for his extremist views. When pressed on his record, he lashes out at the messenger rather than defending his positions.

El-Sayed has earned endorsements from Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez, who both joined him at Sunday’s campaign rally. He’s currently running in a contentious Democratic primary against Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens.

The fact that even CNN — a network hardly known for conservative journalism — is giving El-Sayed tough interviews speaks volumes. His radical positions are so indefensible that even left-leaning journalists feel compelled to challenge them.

Michigan voters deserve a senator who will put American interests first, not someone who refuses to condemn Iran’s murderous regime out of political calculation. They deserve someone with the courage to defend their record, not a candidate who throws tantrums when asked basic questions.

Americans deserve better.
