Far-Left Climate Radical Just Crushed Establishment Dems in Critical Michigan Race

  • Radical co-founder of extreme climate group defeats two establishment-backed Democrats in Michigan primary
  • Winner endorsed by Bernie Sanders and Squad member Rashida Tlaib, pushing hard-left agenda including abolishing police and ICE
  • Republicans see opportunity as Democrats tear themselves apart with socialist insurgency across the country

The civil war tearing apart the Democratic Party just claimed another establishment casualty, with a far-left climate activist crushing two mainstream Democrats in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District primary Tuesday night.

William Lawrence, co-founder of the radical Sunrise Movement, trounced former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink and former Navy SEAL Matt Maasdam to secure the Democratic nomination in the Lansing-anchored district. Lawrence will now face Republican Rep. Tom Barrett, a military veteran seeking his second term this November.

Barrett won the seat in 2024 after Democrat Elissa Slotkin vacated it for her successful Senate run. He ran unopposed in Tuesday’s Republican primary.

Lawrence’s commanding victory represents the latest win for the socialist insurgency trying to hijack the Democratic Party from within. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and allied radicals are waging battles across the country, leaving destruction in their wake.

Mike Marinella, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), didn’t mince words about Democrats’ self-destruction.

“The Democrats’ path to the House majority is evaporating in real time. Every embarrassing defeat leaves them with a radical socialist nominee, an emptier bank account, and another must-win seat off the board.”

While the DSA didn’t formally endorse Lawrence in this race, he secured backing from Rep. Rashida Tlaib, his fellow Michigan Democrat and prominent DSA member who has stirred repeated controversy with inflammatory comments about Israel. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the self-described democratic socialist, also endorsed Lawrence’s candidacy.

The Sunrise Movement, which Lawrence co-founded in 2017, started as a youth-focused climate activist organization pushing the economy-destroying Green New Deal alongside congressional progressives. But their radical agenda extends far beyond climate hysteria.

According to the group’s own website, Sunrise Movement demands include removing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from American cities and abolishing police departments entirely. These are the extreme positions Lawrence brings to his campaign against Barrett.

For Republicans fighting to maintain control of the House of Representatives, Lawrence’s primary victory may be the best possible outcome. As Democrats tear themselves apart with increasingly radical nominees, conservatives have opportunities to flip seats that should be safely blue.

The establishment wing of the Democratic Party keeps losing ground to socialist insurgents backed by Sanders, the Squad, and far-left activist organizations. Each primary cycle pushes Democrats further from mainstream American values and closer to European-style socialism.

Americans deserve better.
