Charles Kelley of Lady A has announced a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer discovered after several unexplained rib fractures.

The country music performer shared the news in a personal Instagram video, explaining that doctors uncovered the condition during routine testing.

“I think in the same spirit of the way we’ve kind of shared a lot of my sobriety journey, just getting this stuff off your chest is so freeing, and it takes the power away from it a little bit that we wanted to let y’all know what was going on,” he told fans.

“And we’re going to get through it.”

Kelley emphasized his determination to continue performing during the first six months of treatment, stating that he believes the process will not be overly invasive.

“I believe it’s not going to be too super invasive. I can still work,” he said. “I think physically I will feel like myself. I’ll have tough days, but you know, I want to keep working.”

The musician plans to maintain his focus on family and performing throughout his treatment, viewing the diagnosis as another challenge to overcome.

“I need to be happy and doing what I love to do and spending and soaking up as much time with my family as I can as well,” Kelley explained.

“It’s just another hurdle, and I’m pretty confident that we’re going to get through it,” he added.

This marks the second health challenge for Kelley, who previously postponed a tour in 2022 to focus on his sobriety journey with support from his wife Cassie and his bandmates.
