Liberty Check
- President Trump honors Italian American heritage and the federal Columbus Day holiday.
- Trump condemns the 2020 mob attacks on Christopher Columbus monuments.
- The remarks reaffirm constitutional protections for historical symbols and traditional American culture.
President Donald Trump issued a clear message ahead of Columbus Day, celebrating the contributions of Italian Americans and condemning the wave of statue destruction that swept across the nation in 2020.
“HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY TO ALL,” Trump wrote in a public statement. “The great Italian American community is so important to our Country, and the beautiful statues of Christopher Columbus that were torn down and desecrated are now being put back up by me.”
The president’s remarks come as many cities continue to grapple with the aftermath of the 2020 unrest, during which multiple Columbus monuments were toppled or defaced.
Trump framed the holiday as a time to recognize Italian American achievement and to push back against efforts to erase historical figures from public spaces.
It’s time to push back.
