Federal agents and local police descended on Kansas City International Airport Sunday, forcing thousands of travelers onto the tarmac after a bomb threat at 11:15 a.m.

Aircraft waited on taxiways as highway exits closed and flights grounded.

“The FBI is aware of the incident, and our personnel are working with airport and law enforcement officials to determine the credibility of the threat,” FBI spokesperson Dixon Land stated.

Passenger Logan Hawley described the chaos: “Suddenly, there was an airport worker saying, ‘immediately evacuate,’ people got up fast and rushed out of there.”

Travelers reentered before 1:45 p.m., incurring 127 delays and two cancellations.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed normal operations resumed, crediting law enforcement.

“The safety of passengers, airport staff, and crew members is always our number one priority,” Duffy emphasized.

This incident echoes a similar threat on December 31, 2025, with no danger found.
