The establishment media wants you to believe President Donald Trump doesn’t care about the 2026 midterms. They’re pointing to his recent statement as proof he’s lost focus.

The reality? Trump is playing chess while his critics play checkers.

The president made headlines by declaring he doesn’t care about the midterms — a statement that sent political pundits into overdrive. But look at the evidence: Trump has devoted massive energy to defeating disloyal Republicans, including Thomas Massie and Bill Cassidy, and successfully backed Ken Paxton’s demolition of establishment incumbent John Cornyn in Texas.

What Trump actually meant was simple: Nothing matters more than stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons. While Democrats obsess over political wins, Trump focuses on existential threats to American security.

Despite escalating tensions with Iran, Axios reported that the administration reached a 60-day agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the U.S. blockade. The nuclear question would be addressed later.

Trump said he wanted time to consider the deal carefully.

Meanwhile, the president continues driving the GOP’s redistricting efforts — a crucial fight to pick up House seats that happens once per decade. He’s also been the primary force behind primary challenges to weak Republicans who refuse to stand with America First conservatives.

Take the Texas Senate race. Trump went after Democrat James Talarico with characteristic force:

“A strong Open Borders advocate, he is WEAK ON CRIME, believes there are 6 genders, is insulting to Jesus Christ, will never support the Military…a Vegan who dislikes meat…”

He even compared Talarico to Alfred E. Neuman, the gap-toothed mascot of Mad magazine.

Talarico — who gained fame after CBS refused to air his interview with Stephen Colbert — isn’t actually vegan. But he made the rookie mistake of ordering vegan meals for his campaign, handing Trump perfect ammunition.

Here’s where the media hypocrisy gets obvious: Ken Paxton has faced impeachment (and acquittal), settled federal health care fraud charges, and been accused of adultery by his soon-to-be ex-wife. Yet the mainstream media gave him minimal scrutiny.

Now suddenly they’re hammering Talarico for what he called “cringey comments.”

CBS’s Ed O’Keefe pressed the Democrat to explain past statements like “God is non-binary.”

Talarico claimed he was being “intentionally provocative” but really meant that “God can’t be defined by human categories.” When asked about saying “there are six biological variations based on chromosomes,” he backpedaled again.

“There are some statements that I’ve made that I certainly regret. There are statements that I’ve made where I’ve missed the mark. I’ll be the first to admit that. But Ken Paxton is intentionally clipping my cringey comments to distract from his career of corruption.”

Translation: The left-wing activist got caught saying what he really believes.

Some Republicans have criticized Trump for focusing on issues like the White House ballroom restoration and the $1.8 billion fund supporting January 6th political prisoners — patriots who’ve been rotting in Biden’s gulag. But these critics miss the bigger picture: Trump is fighting on multiple fronts while never losing sight of what matters most.

The latest example: His Justice Department is investigating writer E. Jean Carroll, who won $88 million from him in defamation suits related to unproven sexual assault allegations. That judgment remains unpaid.

Two confessions this week prove that political deception runs deep in Washington.

First, Newt Gingrich admitted it was a “mistake” to impeach Bill Clinton over Monica Lewinsky. As Speaker, he knew it at the time because of negative feedback from his daughters. He still believes Clinton committed perjury in the Paula Jones case, but concedes the former president left office at peak popularity.

Second, Jill Biden — after publicly praising her husband’s disastrous debate performance against Trump — now tells CBS Sunday Morning that the meltdown terrified her:

“I thought ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”

So she lied to the American people while knowing Joe was mentally unfit. Remember that next time Democrats lecture about “protecting democracy.”

Trump has acknowledged that a president’s party typically loses seats in his sixth year — and he’s correct. The combination of the Iran conflict and inflation-driven price increases creates headwinds.

But the idea that Trump doesn’t care about the midterms is laughable. He’s actively reshaping the Republican Party, purging disloyal RINOs, and positioning America First candidates for victory.

The president cares deeply about these elections — he’s just refusing to let short-term political calculations override long-term national security priorities.

Americans deserve better than politicians who put poll numbers ahead of protecting the nation.
