Denver’s defense stood tall when the offense faltered, proving that heart and preparation still matter most in American sports. The Broncos survived a dismal second half to defeat the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 in overtime Thursday night.
Wil Lutz drilled a 53-yard field goal in overtime to secure the victory after the Broncos defense delivered the decisive turnover. Sam Darnold’s forced pass into double coverage was intercepted by Ja’Quan McMillian, setting up the winning drive.
“It was refreshing to watch a coach who knows how to properly win a game.”
Sean Payton’s clock management in overtime stood in stark contrast to the chaos that has plagued other teams this season. The veteran coach ran the ball three straight times to center the hash marks and set up Lutz for the game-winner.
Denver built a 14-3 halftime lead behind two methodical touchdown drives capped by J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. The Broncos dominated time of possession in the first half before their offense completely disappeared after intermission.
Bo Nix finished with just 107 passing yards while the offense managed only 36 yards across eight second-half possessions. Seattle mounted a late comeback to force overtime, but three turnovers ultimately doomed the Seahawks.
“The only reason Denver didn’t get blown out was Vance Joseph’s defense.”
Without star cornerback Patrick Surtain II, Denver’s front seven sacked Darnold five times and created turnovers whenever Seattle threatened to take control. The defense’s relentless pressure and opportunistic play preserved a win the Broncos had no business securing.
Seattle generated 353 total yards including 12 receptions by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but turnovers erased any chance of victory. The Seahawks will look to rebound while Denver enjoys a mini-bye before hosting Arizona.
