Smith Calls Out Democrat Boycott Stunt
Liberty Check
- Stephen A. Smith criticized Democrats’ plans to boycott or stage walkouts during the State of the Union.
- He called the behavior immature and disrespectful to the office and the institution.
- Smith warned such partisan spectacles undermine decorum and the Constitution’s principles.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, a self-identified Democrat, publicly condemned his party’s plan to boycott or stage walkouts during President Trump’s State of the Union address. Smith asserted this behavior reflects immaturity and a lack of respect for the office.
He questioned why elected officials refuse to act with the seriousness working Americans are expected to show on the job.
“Neither is acceptable. Neither should be acceptable. At some point in time, ladies and gentlemen, there’s got to be an adult in the room.”
He charged Democrats with lacking both common sense and decency by making a spectacle to score political points.
Smith warned this disrespect undermines not just the individual in office but the integrity of the institution itself.
Actions like partisan boycotts promote division and weaken the principles of decorum and debate on which the Constitution relies. Defending freedom means demanding responsible leadership and a return to civic duty—no matter which party is in power.
The Constitution must be defended.
