The top-ranked Texas Longhorns blew a double-digit lead and handed the game to unranked Oklahoma on two late interceptions by Arch Manning.
The Sooners capitalized on a missed field goal and the quarterback’s mistakes to steal a 27-24 walk-off victory in Dallas.
“The Red River Rivalry looked like it would be all Texas early, as Arch Manning made one of his better plays, running to his left and throwing a 41-yard touchdown.”
Oklahoma answered in the second quarter, but Texas still carried a 17-7 lead into halftime.
“However, the Longhorns offense stalled, and the Sooners offense picked up in the fourth quarter.”
Lloyd Avant’s touchdown run erased the deficit and tied the game early in the final period.
“Manning overthrew a receiver, and it was picked off by Peyton Bowen and taken to the house for a 42-yard pick-6, giving Oklahoma a 24-17 lead with 10:07 to go.”
Texas fought back to tie at 24 with just over six minutes remaining.
“The Longhorns quickly got on the other side of the field, but they had to settle for a 52-yard field goal try – however, it went wide-right.”
Oklahoma marched into range and Tate Sandell drilled the 47-yard game-winner as time expired.
Americans deserve better.
