Madonna claimed the top prize at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home Artist of the Year along with Best Collaboration and Best Dance honors for a total of seven awards on the night.

“I came to New York to be a dancer and dance is where everything happened for me in my life.”

“I came to life on the dance floor, I fell in love with people on the dance floor, and I lost many people I loved on the dance floor. [And] dance brings everybody together. We’re all equal on the dance floor.”

Madonna’s wins came against a strong field including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars, and Morgan Wallen.

Swift secured Video of the Year for her self-directed “The Fate of Ophelia” music video and received the first-ever Artist Director Honors.

The evening also featured a tribute to the late Dolly Parton, performed by Kacey Musgraves one month after Parton’s passing.

Musgraves channeled the country icon’s style while performing “I Will Always Love You,” which Swift later referenced in her own acceptance speech dedication.
