Former WWE and Extreme Championship Wrestling star Dawn Marie is making headlines with an unexpected career announcement. The 55-year-old wrestling legend revealed she’s joining OnlyFans — but not for the reasons critics might assume.
Marie, who captivated audiences during ECW’s mid-1990s heyday and WWE’s early 2000s programming, is now working as a nurse in New Jersey. She’s facing the reality that injuries sustained during her wrestling career are making her nursing job increasingly difficult.
“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be flirty,” she told Fox News Digital. “We’re not doing nudes, which I made that very clear. Just going to be Dawn Marie.”
The decision comes from a place of maternal responsibility and financial prudence. As a single mother, Marie is thinking about her children’s futures and the mounting costs of higher education in America.
“I have a lot of residual issues also from being a nurse from wrestling. I choose not to be what I see on a daily basis – people my age in beds and never getting back up. It’s scary,” Marie explained. “And the only difference is it happened to them and not me.”
She continued with refreshing honesty about her motivations.
“These are the things that go through my head. You know, as we get older, we start thinking about these things, right? So, it just made sense. It just made sense to prepare.”
“And heck, if I’m able to nurse and continue to nurse and figure it out and not need the extra dollars … Well, I guess my kids are going to have a great time after I’m gone. … I would love nothing more than to be able to, as a single mom, have my kids finish school and not have a college debt.”
Marie is also returning to wrestling appearances, which has motivated her to prioritize her health and fitness. The combination of fan interest and her physical preparation made the OnlyFans platform seem like a natural next step.
“I’m not trying to be the Dawn Marie of 20 years ago,” she said. “I’m trying to be the Dawn Marie that’s 55 and embracing it and enjoying being what I am and what I am now. I think women are beautiful at every age.”
She emphasized this isn’t about getting rich quick or compromising her values.
“This is just preparing a little extra something for my future – just in case.”
Marie’s wrestling journey began in 1995 at an independent show in New Jersey, where she managed Tony Atlas in his match against Jimmy Snuka. She worked her way through the East Coast independent circuit before breaking into ECW and eventually WWE (then the World Wrestling Federation).
After departing WWE in 2005, she appeared in various independent promotions throughout the late 2000s. Her 2024 return to WWE at NXT Halloween Havoc as a special guest referee for a match between Jaida Parker and Lola Vice reminded her why she fell in love with wrestling in the first place.
“The second I walked out that curtain and I had that moment. It was so profound,” she recalled. “Literally, I could remember, I walk out and going … It was weird. It was like, scary at first, but then it felt so peaceful. Like, at first, it was scary because you’re like, ‘What the freak is going on, right?’ And then it was like, it just felt right.”
