Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark moved dangerously close to a one-game suspension Wednesday night when she picked up her seventh technical foul of the season against the Connecticut Sun. One more technical and the league’s brightest star will be forced to sit out a game.

With the Fever dominating 95-67 near the end of the third quarter, Connecticut’s Olivia Nelson-Ododa was called for a foul. Her teammate Saniya Rivers began jawing at Clark.

The WNBA sharpshooter appeared to gesture toward the scoreboard, reminding Rivers of the 28-point deficit. Before things escalated further, officials handed both players technical fouls.

“She said she was locking me up, so I said, ‘Scoreboard,’ and the ref didn’t like that,”

Clark explained after the game.

The rookie sensation made it clear she has no intention of toning down her competitive fire just because a suspension looms. Clark’s aggressive style has been a defining characteristic of her game since her record-breaking college career at Iowa.

“I think just continue to try to control your emotions the best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don’t think I’m going to be playing with that in the back of my head,”

she said.

Indiana cruised to a 123-88 victory over Connecticut, with Clark putting on another clinic in just 27 minutes of action. She finished with 27 points and 11 assists, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and draining five three-pointers.

Clark currently ranks tied for fourth in scoring across the WNBA, averaging 21 points per game. She’s also second in assists per game at 7.9, proving she’s not just a scorer but a complete floor general.

The Fever improved to 17-10 with the blowout win and now sit in fifth place in the WNBA standings. Clark has transformed a franchise that went 13-27 last season into a playoff contender.

Diamond Miller led Connecticut with 15 points in the losing effort. The Sun fell to 7-20 on the season, continuing their disappointing campaign.
