Taylor Swift has tied the knot with NFL champion Travis Kelce in what may be the most anticipated celebrity wedding of the decade. The couple exchanged vows on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, with an estimated 1,000 guests in attendance.
The “Love Story” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs star rented out the iconic arena for multiple days to host their celebration. Swift and Kelce began their romance in summer 2023, though they kept the relationship largely under wraps in its early stages.
While Swift has always been protective of her personal life, she was first spotted attending a Chiefs game on September 24, 2023. In a candid interview with TIME magazine, she revealed the relationship had actually begun much earlier.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,”
Swift explained that the couple had significant time together before going public.
“We started hanging out right after that. So, we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”
“By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,”
she added.
The relationship’s origin story began in July 2023, when Kelce mentioned on his “New Heights” podcast that he had attempted to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number when The Eras Tour came through Kansas City.
“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,”
Kelce told his brother Jason.
Swift and Kelce later appeared together on the podcast on August 13, 2025, sharing more intimate details of their first meeting. Swift joked about Kelce’s unconventional approach to getting her attention.
“This podcast got me a boyfriend ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app,”
she said with a laugh.
Swift continued:
“This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet, and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first… You realize he didn’t even reach out to our management. He came with Pat [Mahomes] and he thought that, because he knows the elevator lady, that he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room.”
Kelce admitted that Swift’s extensive catalog of love songs actually provided him with a blueprint for winning her heart.
“I was sitting there at the Eras Tour listening to every single one of those songs, being like, ‘I know exactly what she wants me to do,'”
he revealed.
“I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
Just 13 days after their joint podcast appearance, the couple announced their engagement on Instagram. Swift shared photos of the proposal with a playful caption:
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The wedding marks a new chapter for both Swift, one of the most successful recording artists of all time, and Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion. Their relationship has captivated Americans across the political and cultural spectrum, representing a rare unifying moment in popular culture.
