Carrington offered no elaboration, leaving her inflammatory accusation hanging without context or evidence. The post appeared to blame either Cunningham, the officiating decision, or the entire Fever organization for her own violent conduct.

This isn’t Carrington’s first controversy with the Fever. During the 2024 playoffs, she poked Caitlin Clark in the eye, leaving the superstar with a black eye. Both players initially called it accidental, but Carrington later appeared to joke about the incident on Instagram Live, drawing widespread condemnation.

Carrington previously mocked Clark for what she called flopping and labeled Indiana supporters “the nastiest fans in the W” after receiving criticism online. She has consistently defended her aggressive playing style, claiming she always attempts to make a play on the ball.

The collision unfolded as Cunningham remained at the center of a growing political firestorm. Supporters held a fourth rally outside Saturday’s game at the United Center, while counterprotesters also gathered nearby.

Cunningham has taken a courageous stand for protecting women’s sports, stating she does not harbor hatred toward transgender people but believes safeguarding girls and women in athletics is “common sense.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt previously defended Cunningham, calling the backlash against her “astonishing.” With another rally scheduled for the Fever’s August 22 game against the New York Liberty, the controversy surrounding Cunningham and Indiana shows no signs of slowing.

Beyond basketball, Carrington has drawn attention for wearing an explicit anti-President Trump sweatshirt and urging WNBA players to oppose Trump administration policies affecting women and the LGBTQ community.

The incident highlights the WNBA’s descent into political theater, where on-court violence gets excused with accusations of racism and athletes who stand for common sense face targeted harassment.
