Two Massachusetts-born Yankees delivered a decisive Game 1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night while star Aaron Judge remained sidelined.

Cam Schlittler from Walpole and Ben Rice from Cohasset led the charge in the Bronx, giving New York an early edge in the best-of-three Wild Card Series.

Schlittler entered the matchup with a dominant history against the Red Sox, posting an ERA below one in prior meetings. He followed that pattern again, working 6.1 scoreless innings with ten strikeouts, two hits, and one walk.

Boston now faces elimination on Wednesday night with former Yankee Sonny Gray on the mound against New York’s Max Fried.
