Uncertainty and panic ensued after two U.S. banks collapsed within 48 hours, including the second-biggest failure in the nation’s history.
Silicon Valley Bank collapsed on Friday, followed by the New York-based Signature Bank on Sunday.
On Monday, President Joe Biden said “Americans can rest assured that our banking system is safe, your deposits are safe.”
Biden vowed to do “whatever is needed” to prevent any more bank runs.
Biden also assured Americans that “no losses will be borne by the taxpayers” — but that claim has been met with some skepticism.
