As global competition with China intensifies, the United States is pushing human exploration farther than the Apollo era. The mission will also test Orion’s life-support systems.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman emphasized the shift from temporary visits to a lasting foothold on the lunar surface.

“This time, the goal is to stay. America will never again give up the Moon.”
