  • Abdul El-Sayed refused to disavow Hasan Piker’s controversial remarks.
  • He said he wants to focus on economic issues and winning younger voters.
  • The campaign has drawn criticism over association with polarizing online figures.

A Michigan Democrat running for the U.S. Senate is doubling down on his alliance with a controversial Twitch streamer known for provocative rhetoric. Abdul El-Sayed refused to disavow Hasan Piker despite growing public outcry.

Instead of addressing the streamer’s past comments, El-Sayed redirected his focus toward podcaster Joe Rogan while dismissing concerns as cancel culture. He argued that appearing with controversial figures is necessary to reach younger voters across the state.

“I’m not here to disavow people’s views,” El-Sayed said.

“I’m here to have a conversation about how to get money out of politics, put money back in pockets, and pass Medicare for all.”

The candidate’s partner in these campaign events previously caused outrage by claiming that America deserved the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Piker has also faced criticism for downplaying the mass rapes committed by Hamas during the October 7 assault on Israel.

Voters must decide if they want leaders who provide a platform for those who harbor deep resentment against the United States. Our country deserves representation that upholds the dignity of our history and the security of our allies.

The Constitution must be defended.
