Newsom’s Trump Blame Game CRUMBLES Under Weight of Biden-Era Timeline

  • Federal investigations into Newsom’s orbit reportedly began under Biden administration, not Trump
  • Multiple news outlets cite sources confirming probes originated from local whistleblowers over a year ago
  • Newsom’s political blame game falls apart as timeline contradicts his weaponization claims

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s attempt to paint President Donald Trump as orchestrating a political witch hunt against him is unraveling under the weight of an inconvenient truth: the federal investigations he’s complaining about reportedly began before Trump even returned to the White House.

The timeline has become the central flaw in Newsom’s narrative. While the embattled governor frantically claims Trump’s Justice Department is weaponizing investigations against a political rival, multiple credible news organizations have reported that key investigative activity began during the Biden administration.

According to CalMatters, at least two criminal investigations involving Newsom’s inner circle have been underway for approximately a year in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California. The outlet cited a Justice Department source confirming the investigations originated from whistleblowers and local complaints in Sacramento.

One inquiry involving former Newsom chief of staff Dana Williamson was opened during the Biden administration. Williamson pleaded guilty earlier this year to corruption charges in a case that did not directly implicate Newsom.

CBS News, Axios, the Financial Times, and The Guardian have all reported similar timelines, citing sources familiar with the investigations. The consensus: at least one federal inquiry began roughly a year ago and originated in California rather than at Justice Department headquarters in Washington.

Despite the mounting evidence contradicting his claims, Newsom has doubled down on his victimhood narrative. He’s maintained that the current Justice Department is weaponizing the investigations in retaliation for his criticism of Trump and his national political profile, describing the inquiry as a politically motivated “fishing expedition.”

His administration has sought records through the Freedom of Information Act in an effort to determine who ordered or directed the current investigation—a move that appears designed more for political theater than uncovering truth.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche dismantled that characterization this week. While declining to comment on any ongoing investigations, Blanche told reporters he was “not sure [Newsom’s] words are in any way grounded in fact,” adding that the California governor “would have to address that.”

Blanche did not confirm or deny whether any investigation exists, maintaining the standard DOJ protocol of not commenting on ongoing matters.

Newsom’s office responded with the maturity one might expect from a middle schooler, mocking Blanche on social media by posting a meme captioned, “Why you always lyin.” The governor’s press office added: “Trump goons know that it’s not a crime to lie to a reporter.”

The juvenile response speaks volumes about Newsom’s desperation as his political narrative collapses.

According to CalMatters, Newsom’s office contends federal prosecutors expanded their inquiries after failing to build a case from the Williamson investigation, broadening their scrutiny to include Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the couple’s finances, and their associates. The outlet reported investigators have examined the first partner’s tax filings, nonprofit organizations, and certain behested payments.

Fox News Digital previously reported, citing federal sources, that investigators have opened inquiries involving Jennifer Siebel Newsom. However, Fox News had not learned of any federal investigation directly targeting Gov. Newsom himself at the time of reporting.

The irony is rich: Newsom, who has spent years accusing conservatives of spreading misinformation, now finds himself peddling a narrative that doesn’t align with the facts. His attempt to weaponize Trump’s name as a shield against legitimate scrutiny reveals the panic of a politician who knows the walls may be closing in.

Whether these investigations yield charges remains to be seen. What is clear is that Newsom’s attempt to blame Trump for probes that reportedly began under Biden’s watch demonstrates the lengths some politicians will go to avoid accountability.

Americans deserve better than politicians who play victim when faced with legitimate oversight.
