Massie Explodes on Reporter Over Explosive Ex-Girlfriend Claims

- Conservative lawmaker confronts media over tabloid-style allegations just days before primary defeat
- Rep. Massie and Rep. Boebert both categorically deny claims from purported former girlfriend
- Questions mount about mainstream media’s role in pushing unverified personal attacks against GOP figures
Rep. Thomas Massie erupted at a Fox News Digital reporter who pressed him on unverified allegations from a woman claiming to be his ex-girlfriend. The confrontation turned heated when Massie began recording the reporter with his phone, flipping the tables on what he called “tabloid” journalism.
The woman, former congressional staffer Cynthia West, made a series of claims including that Massie offered her money and requested she sign a non-disclosure agreement related to a wrongful termination dispute. She also alleged he bragged about a sexual encounter with Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., shortly after his wife’s death last year.
When the reporter attempted to give Massie an opportunity to respond publicly, the Kentucky Republican turned the encounter around.
“So let me ask you, I heard that you like gay porn,” Massie said as he pulled out his phone and began recording the reporter. “Is that true?”
As the reporter began walking away, Massie followed, continuing to film and question him.
“Are you a real loser?” he asked.
“No, come back man,” Massie said as the reporter distanced himself. “Are you with Fox? Is that a legitimate news organization? Is this what you do for a living?”
The interaction began with the reporter asking Massie to “clear up” allegations that he offered West $5,000 in exchange for dropping a wrongful termination lawsuit against Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., a Massie ally.
“It’s all false,” Massie said when asked.
Pressed further about the allegations involving Boebert, Massie repeated his denial.
“It’s all false,” he said again.
Boebert herself confronted the same reporter earlier this month over identical questions about the alleged encounter.
“F— you, first of all!” Boebert told the reporter when the claims were raised.
“If you’re gonna bring me into this, like, the sexist stuff is like out of control,” she continued. “So there’s your clickbait that you were looking for.”
Earlier in the exchange, Massie questioned the network’s decision to pursue the story.
“When did you all become a tabloid?” Massie asked. “Seriously, dude.”
The allegations surfaced just one week before Massie was defeated in the race to keep his House seat in the May 19 Republican primary. The timing raised questions among Massie’s supporters about coordinated efforts to damage his campaign in its final days.
Americans deserve better than unsubstantiated personal attacks masquerading as journalism.
