Virginia Democrat MELTDOWN Over Billion-Dollar Tax Breaks Exposes Party Chaos
Liberty Check
- Virginia Democrats publicly feuding over massive data center tax incentives that critics say rob local communities
- Internal party chaos reveals deep divide between pro-business moderates and progressive activists demanding accountability
- GOP highlighting Democrat disarray as evidence of failed leadership and corporate cronyism
Virginia’s Democrat Party is tearing itself apart over controversial tax breaks handed to Big Tech data centers — and the ugly infighting is now spilling into public view.
At the center of the chaos: billions in tax incentives that Democrats themselves approved, only to watch progressives in their own party cry foul over what they’re calling corporate giveaways.
New: I just wrapped up a lengthy interview with @SenLouiseLucas
Senator Lucas on Governor Abigail Spanberger:
“She’s a diva.”
Right now, Gov. Spanberger is fighting to preserve data center tax breaks. Sen. Lucas wants to get rid of the tax breaks.

Amazon Don and Data Center Diva, you are making a MONUMENTAL MISTAKE! Maybe you should ask Glenn Youngkin how that worked out for him!

The term “diva” has been thrown around by Democrats describing colleagues who refuse to toe the party line on the data center deals. Sources familiar with the internal battles say tempers have flared in closed-door meetings, with lawmakers accusing each other of selling out constituents or playing politics with economic development.
Virginia has become ground zero for data center expansion, with tech giants building massive facilities to power cloud computing and AI infrastructure. But the tax breaks required to lure these projects have created a rift Democrats can’t seem to manage.
Progressive activists argue local school systems and infrastructure are being starved of revenue while corporations rake in savings. Moderate Democrats counter that the jobs and investment justify the incentives — but their own party isn’t buying it.
Republicans are watching the Democrat civil war with satisfaction, pointing to the dysfunction as proof that liberals can’t govern effectively even when they hold power. Conservative lawmakers have hammered Democrats for crafting deals behind closed doors, then pretending to be surprised when the bill comes due.
The public feuding has emboldened GOP challengers who plan to make Democrat hypocrisy on corporate handouts a central campaign theme. Voters are taking notice as their property taxes climb while tech companies enjoy sweetheart deals negotiated by the same politicians who claim to fight for working families.
What’s clear: Virginia Democrats are in disarray, unable to manage their own policy decisions or present a unified front. The data center debacle has exposed fault lines that could cost them dearly in upcoming elections.
Americans deserve better.
