Do You Believe Republicans Should Stand Firm Amid Government Shutdown Tensions?
Here’s The Scoop
House Republicans are standing firm in their strategy as the government shutdown continues, showing a rare display of unity in the face of Democrat opposition. Despite the fiscal standoff dragging on, GOP lawmakers in battleground districts are confident that they’re on the right track and that the American people are backing them.
Rep. Rob Bresnahan, R-Pa., who flipped his seat from Democrat control, emphasized that Republicans are gaining the upper hand, saying, “The more people understand the math inside of the Senate, the more I would say Republicans are winning.” This sentiment is echoed by Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., who highlighted the clarity with which voters see through Democratic tactics.
As the shutdown enters its third week, Republicans remain steadfast, despite Senate Democrats repeatedly blocking their proposed continuing resolution (CR), which aims to extend current funding levels for seven weeks. This CR is designed to provide more time for a long-term funding agreement, but Democrats are demanding healthcare concessions, including the extension of Obamacare subsidies.
While some Republicans, like Kiggans, support extending these subsidies, they insist that such discussions should be separate from the funding negotiations. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-Pa., pointed out the inconsistency in Democrat demands, noting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ mixed messages on the issue.
Republicans are clear: the House has done its job by passing a clean CR, and it’s the Democrats who are causing chaos by refusing to negotiate in good faith. Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., criticized Democrats for creating unnecessary turmoil, stating, “I think what the Democrats are doing here is creating a mess for the American people.”
The GOP’s resolve is further bolstered by strong leadership from Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Rep. Dave Valadao, R-Calif., warned against setting a dangerous precedent by caving to partisan demands, saying, “Holding the government office is never a good strategy.”
Despite some internal dissent, such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s criticism over Obamacare subsidies and Rep. Kevin Kiley’s disapproval of keeping the House out of session, the majority of battleground Republicans are united. They place the blame squarely on Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer for the ongoing shutdown.
Republicans are determined to stand their ground, with many, like Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa, advocating for real conversations rather than theatrical debates. As the standoff continues, GOP lawmakers are committed to representing their constituents and ensuring that government funding is handled responsibly, without succumbing to Democrat pressure.

There is no need for the tax payers to pay for free anything including health care for illegals.
