Should Gov. Whitmer Be Challenged for Claiming Guns Are the Top Killer of Young People?

On Tuesday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, once again pushed for stricter gun control measures in her state, asserting that “guns are the number one killer of young people in America.” This statement was made during an event in Lansing, where she was surrounded by gun control advocates for their Annual Advocacy Day.
For years, the left has been called out for making misleading claims about gun violence being the leading cause of death among children in America. This narrative was notably debunked by Breitbart News when President Joe Biden first made the claim in June 2022. The data he cited was from the CDC’s 2020 reports, which misleadingly included 18- and 19-year-olds—individuals who are of voting age and legally considered adults—in the category of children to bolster their argument.
Despite the fact that this claim was proven false, it continues to be echoed by prominent Democrats like Vice President Kamala Harris and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, as well as Hollywood figures such as Alyssa Milano and Jennifer Lawrence.
Governor Whitmer, in her recent remarks, shifted the terminology from “children” to “young people,” conveniently sidestepping the specifics of how many of these so-called “young people” are involved in gang activity or criminal behavior on the streets.

I have a few guns and NOT one of them has gone out and killed anyone. I know of a lot of people that have killed people with Sticks, cars, Rocks, Fists, hands, and many other things But I have never seen a gun of anyone’s go out and kill anyone or anything.

Guns don’t kill people. PEOPLE kill people. If someone’s determined to kill you they’ll find a way and much of the time they’ll succeed if you aren’t armed and able to defend yourself. Gov. WHitler & the National Socialist – err, Democratic – Party just wanna take your guns, ’cause a disarmed populace is a defenseless populace.

As noted above, guns do not kill people. People kill people. However, the REAL issue here is not about guns at all. The real issue is if ONE supposed constitutionally protected right can be subverted or “infringed” in any manner, so can and so WILL all others, meaning the Bill of Rights is nothing more than meaningless words!
