  • Free market NIL dollars show why taxpayer subsidies for college sports are unnecessary

Tennessee defeated Alabama 26-10 on the third Saturday in October, handing the Crimson Tide its second straight regular-season loss for the first time in nearly two decades.

The victory triggered the SEC’s automatic $500,000 fine after fans stormed the field once the final whistle sounded.

Alabama athletic director Danny White tried to keep order by appearing on the jumbotron with under a minute left, urging fans to wait until Crimson Tide players were safely off the field.

Once the last pass was intercepted in the end zone, thousands of orange-clad supporters poured onto the turf anyway.

Head coach Josh Heupel finished his ESPN interview and joined the celebration as cigars were lit and “Dixieland Delight” blared through Neyland Stadium.

The money headed to Tuscaloosa could help Kalen DeBoer’s NIL fund or pay for extra offensive line depth.

“If you’re going to lose, at least you’re going to receive a financial bump for the embarrassment,” the report noted.

Alabama would have preferred avoiding another postgame incident like the 2022 confrontation involving wide receiver Jermaine Burton.

Americans deserve better.
