Trans Athlete’s Mother SLAMS School Officials After Biological Girls Forced to Share Victory Podium

  • California high school forces biological female track athletes to share championship podium with transgender competitor
  • School officials handed out implementation notice to coaches — refused to face athlete’s mother directly
  • Trump administration previously filed Title IX lawsuit against California over similar championship violations

The mother of California transgender track athlete AB Hernandez launched a blistering attack on school officials after biological female competitors were forced to share championship podium spots at state track competitions. The social media post accused administrators of targeting a child through “government sanctioned bullying.”

Hernandez, competing for Jurupa Valley High School, claimed first place in the long jump, high jump and triple jump at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section finals in Division 3 over the weekend. During podium ceremonies, officials announced each event had two co-champions based on a controversial rule the high school sports governing body implemented last year.

The transgender athlete missed the first ceremony but later shared the top podium spot with Oak Park High School’s Gwynneth Mureika. Hernandez attended the third ceremony, though co-champion Malia Strange of Shadow Hills was absent.

Hernandez’s mother shared a scathing post from Rainbow Families Action targeting CIF officials for their handling of the situation.

“All these big tough ex-athletes at CIF, and the most courage they could muster was to hand this to coaches at AB’s meet today. Not one of them was brave enough to look her or her mother in the eye and say ‘This whole project of violating Ed Code is aimed at you. A child.'”

The post escalated its criticism to include the California Department of Education and state superintendent Tony Thurmond.

“What are you going to do? Government sanctioned bullying of a kid?”

Rainbow Families Action shared a note from CIF officials reminding parents that biological females would be allowed to share podium positions with transgender athletes under the new policy. The pilot program emerged after Hernandez advanced to the state final last year, prompting President Donald Trump to publicly condemn California and Gov. Gavin Newsom in a Truth Social post.

Hernandez, now a Southern Section champion again, will advance to the CIF preliminaries next Saturday alongside other winners. The competition features the state’s top female jumpers, with successful athletes moving on to the two-day state finals beginning May 29 in Clovis, California.

The CIF enacted its pilot program for state finals last May, awarding any female athlete who finished behind a transgender competitor one higher spot. This resulted in biological girls sharing podium positions with Hernandez for championships. The program also allowed any female athlete who finished one spot outside qualifying in events including a transgender competitor to compete for the title.

Trump’s Department of Justice filed a Title IX lawsuit against California’s education agencies in July following Hernandez’s two state titles and second-place finish in another event. The legal action challenged the state’s handling of biological males competing in girls’ athletics.

Hernandez later competed for Jurupa Valley’s girls’ volleyball team in the fall season. Several teams forfeited matches against Jurupa Valley, and two players on the same team filed a Title IX lawsuit against the Jurupa Unified School District for placing the transgender athlete on the girls’ team and allowing locker room access.

“The CIF values all our student-athletes, and we will continue to uphold our mission in providing students with the opportunity to belong, connect, and compete, while complying with California law and Education code.”

Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
