A televised Los Angeles mayoral forum scheduled for Wednesday was officially canceled after two left-wing candidates withdrew from the event, leaving their conservative challenger without a debate platform.
Councilmember Nithya Raman followed Mayor Karen Bass’ lead in pulling out of the forum, forcing organizers to cancel the entire event.
This is the second time Mayor Bass and Councilmember Raman have backed out of a public debate forum in this very important election cycle, days before the confirmed event – a trend that demonstrates their inability to show up for the public unless it's politically advantageous to… pic.twitter.com/N9Je8AhZ75

If you can't be bothered to show up for a debate, why should voters think you'll ever show up for them as Mayor?
I'll debate anyone, anytime, anywhere. Voters deserve to hear the truth, and I'm the only candidate with the expertise, leadership, and results they can trust. https://t.co/zTkuZHq17E

The withdrawals prompted sharp mockery from the conservative candidate in the race, who has been challenging both incumbents on their handling of Los Angeles’ escalating homelessness crisis, rising crime rates, and failing infrastructure.
The move highlights a pattern of progressive politicians avoiding direct confrontation over their policy failures. While Los Angeles residents struggle with tent cities, skyrocketing costs, and deteriorating public safety, their elected leaders appear unwilling to defend their record in a public setting.
The canceled debate represents another missed opportunity for accountability in a city that desperately needs leadership willing to face tough questions. Conservative voices have long criticized the reluctance of left-wing officials to engage in substantive policy debates, particularly when their governance has produced measurable decline.
Los Angeles has become a cautionary tale of progressive governance, with once-beautiful neighborhoods transformed into open-air drug markets and taxpayer dollars funneled into programs that fail to address root causes of urban decay.
Americans deserve better.
