WATCH: Woke Marine Vet REFUSES to Apologize After Vile Attack on Purple Heart Hero
Liberty Check
- Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner repeatedly dodged apologies when confronted about deleted Reddit posts mocking a Purple Heart recipient shot four times by the Taliban
- Despite claiming to respect veterans, Platner refused to apologize to voters or the wounded soldier he said ‘didn’t deserve to live’
- Navy SEAL Rob O’Neill called Platner’s attacks ‘completely barbaric’ and contrary to military values of standing with your brothers in arms
Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner refused to apologize to a Purple Heart recipient when confronted by Fox News Digital about a deleted Reddit post where he said the wounded soldier “didn’t deserve to live.”
Platner remained silent when initially asked outside a market near his home whether he regrets making the post. The post mocked a video of Pfc. Ted Daniels taken during a 2012 clash with Taliban fighters that ended with Daniels being shot four times and receiving a Purple Heart.
“I did four tours in the infantry, any attempt to say that I disrespect veterans is slanderous and offensive,” Platner said when pressed about whether he owed Maine voters and Daniels an apology.
When asked directly if he owed Daniels an apology, Platner deflected.
“Do you know how many of my friends have Purple Hearts, do you know how many of my friends got wounded?”
Platner, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, sparked massive outrage online this week over the resurfaced Reddit post that shows what critics call a shocking lack of respect for his fellow soldiers. Writing under the account “P-Hustle” in June 2019, Platner commented on viral helmet cam footage of Daniels under enemy fire.
“This video never gets old,” Platner wrote.
“Dumb motherf—– didn’t deserve to live. At least his stupidity and fat a– wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt. Poor marksmanship on the Taliban’s part is the only reason this mouthbreather made it home. He managed to make every possible s— decision possible when it comes to small unit combat.”
Rob O’Neill, the U.S. Navy SEAL credited with killing Usama bin Laden, was among many veterans who condemned Platner’s comments.
“Mr. Platner was way out of line talking about a soldier that way,” O’Neill told Fox News Digital.
“This is completely barbaric. I don’t understand. If you swear an oath to the country, it doesn’t even matter what the politics are. Every single time you fight it’s for the man next to you, it’s for the person next to you. Politics goes out the window. And to wish ill on someone like that under fire is just, you know, like I said, it is the opposite of everything I’ve ever been raised to believe.”
Platner has previously leaned on his struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to explain numerous inflammatory social media posts that have surfaced since he announced his Senate run. In October, before the Daniels post and other military-disparaging comments became public, Platner issued an apology.
“For those of you who have read these things and been offended, have read these things and seen someone that you don’t recognize, I am deeply sorry,” Platner said.
“I’m sorry for this. Just know that it’s not reflective at all of who I am. I don’t want you to judge me on the dumbest thing I ever wrote on the internet. I would prefer if people could judge me on the person I am today.”
Yet when given the opportunity to apologize directly to Daniels and Maine voters, Platner refused.
Daniels himself fired back at Platner’s online attack.
“People like this don’t say stuff like this to my face. It’s online, and that right there tells me, Graham, you’re a coward.”
Platner became the Democrats’ presumptive nominee after his rival, two-term Gov. Janet Mills, ended her campaign last month after trailing in both polling and fundraising. The Democratic Senate Primary in Maine will be held on June 9, where Platner will face Democrat David Costello for the right to challenge incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
Our veterans deserve better.
