President Donald Trump has gained surprising support from several longtime opponents in a coordinated effort to restore film production inside the United States. The push centers on federal tax incentives designed to reverse the flow of projects leaving California for other states and overseas locations.

California Democrat Adam Schiff joined the effort by publicly stating he is “in strong agreement with the president.” Schiff called on Congress to “immediately take up and pass a federal film tax incentive to bring back these good-paying jobs that we’ve lost to other countries.”

“We’ve been promoting that for a long time. I’m glad he finally arrived at it,” Pelosi told Fox News Digital when asked about the plan on the Capitol grounds.

Ilhan Omar also endorsed the proposal, noting she had already worked at the state level to attract productions to Minnesota. Omar pointed to films such as “Fargo” as proof that targeted incentives can generate revenue and employment.

“When I was in the Minnesota House, I was very supportive of Minnesota having subsidies so we can have more movies being made inside Minnesota like the movie ‘Fargo’,” she said.

Trump previously named Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as special envoys to Hollywood. Gibson highlighted the problem by explaining that for a recent project it was cheaper to fly an entire crew to Europe for three days than to shoot one day in Los Angeles.

“There’s something really wrong there,” he said, adding that another actor, ex-California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, tried to assuage the problem while in office but was met with “obstacles.”
