Federal Judge Blocks Trump White House Press Ban

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order Thursday forcing the Trump administration to restore White House access to CNN, MS NOW and Politico.

The decision came from U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, who blocked the president’s ban while the outlets pursue their legal challenge.

President Trump announced the ban last week, stating the outlets “shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES.”

Reporters from all three organizations were denied entry after their press credentials were deactivated.

“The president has the authority to determine who receives access to the White House.”

Justice Department lawyers argued that White House press access is a privilege, not a right, and defended the administration’s position.

The order will remain in effect for 14 days while the legal battle continues.

Following the ban, several major networks including FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN and NBC News announced they would suspend pooled coverage of the president.
