Seattle’s backfield has taken a brutal beating this season. The Seahawks are now turning to a 30-year-old veteran to patch the holes left by free agency and injury.

Joe Mixon has agreed to join the Seahawks after a quick workout in the Pacific Northwest. The team placed him on the practice squad to get him back into playing shape following a year-long absence.

Kenneth Walker III’s departure in free agency and rookie Jadarian Price’s placement on injured reserve left Seattle desperate for depth at the position.

Mixon spent all of 2025 recovering from a severe foot injury after rushing for over 1,000 yards with the Houston Texans in 2024. His previous Pro Bowl selections came during his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he helped the team reach Super Bowl LVI.

His off-field history has followed him throughout his career. In 2014, Mixon was suspended from Oklahoma after an incident involving a student. He later entered an Alford plea and completed community service. Several NFL teams reportedly removed him from their draft boards before Cincinnati selected him in the second round.

“Mixon spent all of 2025 on the shelf recovering from a severe foot injury suffered right after a 1,000-yard Pro Bowl campaign with the Houston Texans in 2024.”

Additional legal issues arose during his professional career. A 2023 road-rage incident led to a misdemeanor charge that ended in acquittal. A separate incident involving a shooting near his home resulted in a civil lawsuit that was settled in 2025.

When healthy, Mixon has proven productive on the field. He earned the 2018 AFC rushing title and helped Cincinnati reach the Super Bowl, where he threw a touchdown pass in the game.

Seattle is counting on Mixon to bring experience and physicality to a position group that desperately needs stability. The veteran will need to show he can still contribute at a high level after missing an entire season.

Our freedoms depend on staying vigilant.
